Workshop “RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING AND EXPERIENCE IN HIGHER EDUCATION"

Workshop was organised on 11.02.2026 to discuss recognition of prior learning (RPL) in Latvian higher education.

During the event, attendees were informed about current national and European developments related to the recognition of prior learning (RPL). Research on RPL in the Latvian higher education was presented and discussed. In addition, representatives of Latvian higher education institutions had the opportunity to exchange experiences with Irish higher education representatives, who provided insights into RPL practices in Ireland, covering both academic and professional recognition of prior learning.

Discussion on:

  • Recognition of learning outcomes – what do you think would be the most effective ways to encourage higher education institutions to share information about course descriptions? How realistic would it be to create a unified digital environment where course descriptions are available?

  • Recognition of non-formal education – in your opinion, what is the most effective approach (assessment methods) for evaluating whether the knowledge, skills, and competences acquired through non-formal education correspond to a specific study course?

  • Recognition of professional experience – which documents do you consider sufficient (formal) proof of professional experience?
